Our History

Scott Petersen earned his pilot’s license in 1980 and became a licensed Aerial Applicator in 1996. He chased his dream of becoming a full time crop dusting pilot and operator by founding Pontiac Flying Service with his family in Pontiac, Illinois. With a dedicated team and community support, the business has grown significantly since 1997.

We have grown to meet the needs of the local farming community and the demand for quality aerial applications. Scott started with one radial bi-wing Ag-Cat and now Pontiac Flying Service owns and operates five turbine powered Air Tractors. We subcontract additional aircraft and pilots to meet the demands of the fungicide season. Our crew of pilots from out of state is made up of some of the most quality and professional pilots in the industry. We focus on long term relationships with our subcontracted pilots and operators.

Home base is located at the Pontiac Municipal Airport. In 2020, PFS expanded by acquiring a private airport in rural Cooksville to better serve Mclean County.
